Basic Career Management
Ok, so you have fighters in your gym, now what? This course will attempt to outline all the steps involved in managing a WeBL fighter.
After creation, your fighter will be ranked in his weight division and region. He has two important records, his W-L-T, and his rating and status or "R/S" [represented as #(#)]. He will start out with a rating of 0. When he wins, he will gain 1 rating point (with a few exceptions we'll outline later), if he loses he will lose one (also with a few exceptions). His status will always be equal to the highest rating he has ever reached, and can never go down. You will start out at R/S 0(0), and even in the ratings with other newly created 0(0) fighters.
You must wait for your fighter to be scheduled. Your fighter will fight once a week based on his weight class. Example: All welterweights and superwelterweights fight on Wednesdays. The fights take place in the early morning (eastern time) that day, and it is not required nor helpful for you to be online when they take place. After each days worth of fights, the rankings are updated, and the scheduler is run for the weight classes that fought 2 days before. So, since welterweights and superwelterweights fight on Wednesdays, they will have their fights scheduled on Fridays. The complete list of weight classes and when they fight is on the main home page.
Once your fighter is scheduled, it will be indicated on your main gym page. It will show who he is fighting, what gym they are from, when the fight will take place, and for how much money (a newly created fighter will fight for zero dollars his first fight).
Before the fight is scheduled to take place, you should do two things. Give your fighter a fight plan (outlined in another class), and have him train for a specific ability. Remember, he will get 1 AP of whatever he trains for, for that fight only.
Then wait for the fight to take place. After it has, the following will happen:
If your fighter wins:
One win will be added to his career record
He will gain 1 rating point (with some exceptions).
If that rating point is puts his rating at a new high for him, his status will also go up 1.
If his status goes up one, the point he was training for will be added to his stats. At even numbered status 6 or higher, you will also gain an extra AP in a random statistic.
If your fighter loses:
One loss will be added to his career record.
He will lose 1 rating point (with some exceptions).
If your fighter draws:
One draw will be added to his career record.
Your rating and status will remain the same
No matter the result, the following can happen:
Your fighter will lose 1, random AP if his IP total goes over a multiple of 500.
If your fighter was training intensively, he will gain the point he was training and lose 1 randomly (although it may be in the same stat as he just gained one, causing no change)
Exceptions:
A fighter does NOT lose a rating point if he loses by split decision (at least one judge voting for him to win), or if he was fighting someone with a higher rating.
A fighter does NOT gain a rating point if he is the current regional or World champion and he beats someone at a lower rating.
Your fighters new ranking is now set. Fighters are ranked by rating, then status. So that a 5(7) fighter is above a 5(5) fighter, but below 6(6) fighter.
Now that your fighters fight is over, you may change his weight class if his abilities changed and caused that to be necessary (this is usually gaining or losing strength or agility). Otherwise, it is simply time to wait for the next run of the scheduler.
Important things to know about the scheduler: It simply goes from the top of the rankings down, matchup up fighters next to each other. 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, etc. However, it will not match up two fighters from the same gym. If they are in line to fight each other, one will be skipped. It will run through again and try to match up any skipped fighters, but only if they are within 2 rating points of each other. This is the main cause of fighters not getting fights. This also may happen very rarely because there are an odd number of fighters in a division and your fighter is the last one left.
Thank you for taking Basic Career Management.
